Treasure Island Lawless Day

Posted 03-22-08

Believe it or not, a Treasure Island City Commissioner has publicly proclaimed the Fourth of July of this year to be “Treasure Island Lawless Day”, a day when citizens are encouraged to disregard State, County and Local laws and ordinances.

During a recent Treasure Island City Commission Meeting, the Commissioner representing the Sunset Beach neighborhood of Treasure Island urged residents to stand in their back yards on the evening of the Fourth of July to view the illegal fireworks being set off by law breaking individuals in lieu of the City of Treasure Island spending taxpayers money to hire a professional fireworks company to legally set off fireworks to celebrate the nation’s independence.

Citing the Treasure Island’s Police Department’s failure to control illegal fireworks, Commissioner Alan Bildz urged residents who want to view fireworks on the Fourth of July to simply go outside and watch the illegal private fireworks displays of lawbreaking residents and visitors. Commissioner Bildz seemed to be completely unfazed by the fact that he was asking the residents of Treasure Island not only to tolerate illegal activity but to celebrate the fact that hundreds of residents and visitors have a total disregard for the laws and rules of the community.

Commissioner Bildz also seemed to be unfazed by the fact that each year during the use of illegal Fourth of July fireworks many are injured, some maimed for life, including children.

It seems even more incredible that in order to save a few thousand dollars, an elected official of Treasure Island is publicly willing to take the risk that a small child taking part in such mayhem could be injured or disfigured for life.
