Speed Sign Message to Change

Posted 9-14-07

The digital read out speed limit sign placed along Isle of Palms' 115th Ave. at the request of the ever far sighted and all so knowledgeable Treasure Island High Commissioner Ed Gayton, is turning out to be a total waste of money.

According to a recent investigation conducted by the Gulf Beach News Action Team, nearly every vehicle whose speed was checked by the sign's radar system was registering speeds well in excess of the posted 25 miles per hour.

According to the experts these types of signs have been proven to be ineffective after several weeks becausee drivers become used to seeing the signs unless the signs are accompanied by other speed controlling devices such as the raised cross walks found on St. Petersburg's Causeway Isles. Of course the High Commissioner has chosen to ignore the experts advice and spent thousands of tax payer's dollars on a sign but spent nothing on other recommended road improvements. Now, after several months, no one is paying any attention to the sign.

Gulf Beach News has conducted our own study of the situation and has discovered a simple, cost effect solution to the High Commissioner's short sightedness, simply add a few words of wisdom to go along with the read out displaying the passing vehicle's speed.

Below is Gulf Beach News' recommendation:
