The Metz Mess
Posted 9-22-07
It doesn't get any better than this. Every time some yahoo gets elected to one of the area's City Commissions it gives "angry discontents" like Gulf Beach News even more to write about.

This time it's St. Pete Beach's loveable Harry Metz.
For those of you who are not up on St. Pete Beach politics, Harry is one of the poster boys for the St. Pete Beach branch of Citizens for Responsible Growth which specializes in screwing the business community.
Now, Harry got himself into a little email-off with his former opponent for his Commission seat and we thought we'd share it with you:
Harry,
"Another inappropriate email response, it looks like you could use some very heartfelt advise from one of your constituents. I've copied others in the hopes of broadening the understanding of the issues we are facing on St Pete Beach and the hope that we could all benefit from working together in a constructive manner.
It is always a good idea to take the time to evaluate one's strengths and weaknesses when put into a leadership position. Self reflection can be an excellent tool to help you gain insight into what areas you need to work on. It is very clear that your strong suits are not in the academic or professional arena. However developing internal characteristics in areas of integrity, honesty, respect for self and others may be a focus you could work with. You have a wonderful opportunity that you are wasting by depending too much on a very limited minded support system. I think you owe it to yourself and this position to make a personal pact to not talk to Ralph and company for one week, set up an appointment with a hotelier or two, go in and talk to the restaurant owners and employees, just take off the blinders for seven days and see what you learn. We are so lucky to have an extremely competent City Manager and staff, even if you don't realize it. You can stop trying to micro manage our city employees. Your job description does not include dumpster duty, permit review, weed height control or any of the other hundreds of things you are wasting our tax dollars on employee requests. Take that time instead to gain big picture perspective, that's what you're real focus should be. You can not continue to make decisions based on your obvious disdain for people who did not support your agenda. Gregg Nicklaus and his family are the most community minded people I know, as far as residents and business owners, they are a valuable asset that should be respected and even admired. He and his family have dedicated their time, effort and energy for the betterment of this community for decades. Maybe if you had spent any time being involved in community events, you would have a different perspective. Unfortunately for all of us, you have always chosen the role of dissenter. The future of our quality of life depends on you stepping up to the plate Harry. If you are not up to the challenge, please resign and let someone without issues protect the amenities and character that we all enjoy. Harry, if you want to make a train wreck out of your own life...that's sad. If you want to make a train wreck out of this community.. that's unacceptable! "
Melinda
and Harry's, an elected official using his City email address, answer :
Melinda
"With your list of things I am not suppose to do, I hope now why you were not elected. The view you have is only from the few supporters that you listen to. Please widen you view of what needs to be done for the residents of SPB, your in-house groupies will do nothing but hold you back. I answered your E-Mail because I felt that maybe you could see the light, but ----. When I see the names of your groupies who writes E-Mails to me, I delete them because I know they all have about the same thing to say once they are told what to say. Yours now will also be deleted."
Harry Metz
COMMISSIONER
Here is another Metz-o-gram from his City email address,
"It's probably a good move for Mr. Shenise and his family, now he can enjoy the higher prices, the crowded housing, Traffic jams, and pollution. If you think that article was a mouth full, maybe you should join them, and get a mouth full also."
Harry Metz
Harry, Harry, Harry, is that anyway for an elected official to behave?
Remember this is the same Harry Metz who wants the beach communities to succeed from Pinellas County and form their own county.
By the way Harry, we here on Treasure Island don't want to hear anything about your insane idea to form a new county by uniting the beach communities and splitting from Pinellas County. We here on Treasure Island are already spending $100,000.00 a year to keep the Gulf Beaches Library afloat we are in no mood to spend millions so you and the rest of your fellow malcontents can have their own county.
Harry, you told the St. Pete Times, "Some people say, 'What are you, out of your g-- d----- mind,' " and you know, those some people are absolutely correct.
