Our St. Pete Beach Telephone Survey

Posted 10-24-07

What’s the real story on St. Pete Beach? Do the residents want development or do they want to turn their community into a vast wasteland just like Treasure Island?

We here at Gulf Beach News want to know so we are considering doing our own telephone survey of St. Pete Beach residents (if we can find enough quarters) to find out where the average Joe or Josephine stands when it comes to the future of St. Pete Beach.

Below are samples of questions we are considering asking St. Pete Beach residents if we do find enough quarters to do a telephone survey:

In your opinion Citizens for Responsible Growth is:

a.) A group of individuals, not necessarily residents of St. Pete Beach, concerned about the future of St. Pete Beach.

b.) A group of individuals, not necessarily residents of St. Pete Beach, who must have a lot of money because they continue to take out obnoxious half page ads in the St. Pete Times.

c.) A group of individuals concerned with the proper cultivation of marijuana.

Do you believe increased density will harm St. Pete Beach?

a.) Yes, I don’t want big developers coming into town and creating jobs and tax income.

b.) No, I don’t want to live in a town of vacant lots, run down motels and empty store fronts.

c.) We need less dense and more common sense.

Do you believe that big developers want to urbanize St. Pete Beach?

a.) Yes, big developers want to destroy the planet.

b.) No, continued development and redevelopment are the basis of our nation’s economic well being.

c.) Let me see, we live in the most densely populated county in the nation's 4th most populated state, the 13th largest metropolitan area in the nation and you’re worried about urbanization?

Do you think certain St. Pete Beach elected officials are working with the developers to make big money by allowing them to present new developer friendly programs to the community and should they be stopped?

a.) Yes, I heard they want to tear down my house to make way for an expressway.

b.) No, I don’t think this is Hazard County and I don’t think Boss Hogg is in charge.

c.) Wait a minute, isn’t this the United States of American and doesn’t everyone have the right to present new ideas and programs to the community and elected officials?

What does the term “Here They Come Again” mean to you?

a.) Those evil developers are trying again to rape our land, eat all the sea turtles and steal our children.

b.) People are seeing the light and realize that controlled development is much better than no development.

c.) The St. Petersburg Times is going to make a lot of money on obnoxious ads.
