Phil Say's Can It!

Outraged by litter trapped in Treasure Island beach's famous cabana's, Commissioner Phil Collins has demanded that the owners of those yellow cabanas now furnish them with trash cans.

Commissioner Collins addressed the Commission about the trash problem after he had participated in a recent beach clean up activity. Apparently while engaged in the beach clean up, Commissioner Collins actually had to bend over and pick up some trash. The trash that the Commissioner was forced to retrieve was allegedly trapped under one of the many yellow cabanas that dot Treasure Island's beach.Phil Collins Trash Can

The owner of the cabana operation spoke to the Commission and tried to explain that he regularly checks the cabanas and keeps them as clean as possible. The ever business friendly Commissioner Collins refused to accept the local businessman's efforts and has demanded that trash baskets be attached to the chairs inside the cabanas.

T I Beach Bums has learned that the Environmental Protection Agency has blocked any attempt to attach baskets to the chairs, citing the possibility of wildlife being injured if they get caught in the small baskets. The EPA has approved a larger trash bin that will eliminate the possibility of any wildlife becoming trapped.

The new trash bins have already begun to appear on the beach. T I Beach Bums was able to obtain a photograph.
