A More Beautiful Treasure Island
Long time Treasure Island resident Ogg Oggelby and his brother Sogg, have been appointed to Treasure Island’s Beautification Committee.
Ogg and Sogg moved to Treasure Island more than 10 years ago from their native Arkansas and both have vowed to return Treasure Island to it’s original small town atmosphere. Ogg told T I Beach Bums that his vision of Treasure Island is that of a small southern community with a natural rural look and feel.
“Where I growed up you could tell who’d lived where and who’d been to Sam’s Club thad week just by walkin by a folks trailer. If-in they’d bend to Sam’s Club you’d see a old stove or washin machine sittin in the front yard because they’d bought a new one or just bought some new clothes and didn’t need no washin machine for a month or two. You’d know’d then there’d bein goin to bein a party. Old stoves and washin machines make for fine beer coolers. You’d just throwd some Old Milwaukee in them things and then filler fill of ice. Invite the neighbors and family and have a good ole time. That’s they wayed I’d like it to be here on Tee Eye.”
When asked about the new ordinance that bans gravel yards Sogg responded by telling
T I Beach Bums “I ain’t never liked them gravel yards. Where’d I grewd up we had natural dirt that way if-in you’d get got all drunk’d up and fell you’d just get some dirt on ya. I’m a tellin you from my own’d personal experiences that fallin and passin out in gravel just ain’t no fun.”

Ogg told T I Beach Bums that
his first order of business was
to eliminate trash and recycle
cans from our City’s streets.
“I’m-a tired of comin home
late at night and seein my
street lined with them garbage
and recycle cans the night
before that there trash
pickin up. I’m a fed up with
runnin over them damn things when I ‘m a commin home from a hard night of drinkin. From now on we gona let people pile their trash in the front yard. About once a month or so we’ll just have one of them there front loader things come on down the street and scoop all the trash up out of people’s yards. I’ll have em do it in the day time soin I don’t run into one of them things commin home from drinkin..”
When asked about recycle cans Ogg told T I Beach Bums, “I’m a for lettin people leave their broke down cars in the yard and let-in them throw’d their empty beer cans into the broke down car. When that there broke down car gets all filled up with empty cans you just call in that there front loader and haul the whole she-bang away.”
T I Beach Bums is confident that Ogg and Sogg will put the Treasure back into Treasure Island.
