Stop Kraus

The National Association of Stop Sign Manufacturers announced this week that Treasure Island City Commissioner Richard Kraus has been named "Stop Sign man of the Year"

According to association president Captain Jeffrey T. Spaulding, Commissioner Kraus received the prestigious award after his stubborn refusal to listen to a vehicle traffic expert whose studies recommended a variety of traffic calming devices on the streets of the Treasure Island neighborhood of Paradise Island. Though the experts have proven that stop signs have a minimal impact on traffic calming, Commissioner Kraus steadfastly refused to listen to reason and stood his ground claiming that inexpensive stop signs will eliminate the problem of speeding vehicles on Paradise Island streets.

Traffic experts had completed a study of traffic patterns on Paradise Island and had developed a plan using raised crosswalks, reflectors and traffic islands with attractive plants. Much to the delight of stop sign manufacturers, Commissioner Kraus insisted that he knew better and that using the cheaper stop signs will save money and slow speeding drivers.

Last year Commissioner Kraus designed a new traffic intersection for the entrance of Paradise Island at the Treasure Island Causeway. Also during the last Commission Meeting, Commissioner Kraus questioned the traffic plan developed for Sunset Beach and endorsed by Sunset Beach Commissioner Bildz.

Residents of Paradise Island can sleep soundly tonight knowing that their Commissioner knows more about traffic control than anyone else.
