Sunset Beach to Secede
New beach town to be called OZ
After years of turmoil capped off by the derailment of negotiations to trade the former Circle K property for the useless right of way next to Caddy’s Waterfront, city commissioners finally gave in and are allowing a small group of malcontents to lead Sunset Beach away from Treasure Island and to independence. The female leader of the group, who refused to identify herself, told T I Beach Bums that Sunset Beach would be renamed OZ..
Treasure Island city officials listed numerous conflicts between Sunset Beach and the rest of Treasure Island. Those conflicts include the Land Development Regulations Referendum which deeply divided the city. The numerous lawsuits brought against the city and commission members. And finally, the ruined land swap deal which would have saved the city in the neighborhood of $750,000.00. There was little discussion and a unanimous vote to end Treasure Island’s association with Sunset Beach
In an exclusive interview with T I Beach Bums, Oz’s new mayor, who refused to identify herself due to several outstanding warrants for her arrest, stated her first official action would be to enact an ordinance allowing the sale of alcohol on Sunday’s beginning at 6:00 AM. The mayor also advised that all potential OZ city employees would be required to fail a background check and could not be taller than 4 feet. Due to the fact that few OZ city residents have driver’s licenses, all traffic signs would be sold at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market.
Other items on the Mayors agenda include declaring the former Sea Breeze Bar site and a nation historical landmark. Turning the former Beach Nutts Bar into a world class tattoo parlor and banning the practice of gainful employment by city residents.
Within weeks expect to see a Welcome to OZ sign where the current Welcome to Sunset Beach sign is located and the renaming of W. Gulf Blvd. to "The Yellow Brick Road."
The only way out of OZ will be to click your heels 3 times and whisper "get me to Sloppy Joe's" repeatedly
