The Plan Plan
Proving once again that they are America’s Funniest City Commission, the Treasure Island City Commission led by Commissioner Ed Gayton spent nearly an hour debating the use of the word “concept” over the use of the word “plan”.
On the evening of November 21, 2006, City of Treasure Island residents were treated to what most assuredly will be judged the most ridiculous debate ever to take place in a public forum as Commissioner Ed Gayton questioned the terminology used in the City’s Downtown Redevelopment Plan.
According to Gayton the use of the
word “plan” would lead the unwashed
and uneducated citizens of Treasure
Island down the path of confusion.
Gayton evidently fears residents such
as the editor of this electronic
fish wrap, are not capable of fully
understanding the four letter word,
“plan”, and if that word was left as
originally written for the past year on
the redevelopment plan Treasure Island residents would be unable to determine how to vote if the plan goes to ballot.
Commissioner Gayton demanded that the word “concept” be added to the term “Downtown Redevelopment Plan” so that it would read “Downtown Redevelopment Concept Plan” and the purpose of the plan, err concept, err plan concept, err concept plan would be clear to the voters who will eventually be deciding on accepting the plan, err concept err, plan concept, err concept plan, during a city wide election.
As a public service T I Beach Bums contacted the world renowned wordologist, Professor Hugo Hackenbush of “The Institute” to clarify any confusion over plan, err concept, err plan concept, err concept plan.
“I’ve done an exhaustive study of these two words since I observed the Commission Meeting on “America’s Funniest Home Videos”, reported Hackenbush, “and after hours of research I have discovered that according to the American Heritage Dictionary the word “plan” means “a proposed or tentative project or goal”. Even more shocking, this same dictionary claims the word “concept” means........you guessed it....... “plan”.
“So what we have in Treasure Island” stated Hackenbush, “is a “Downtown Redevelopment Plan” that was changed to “Downtown Development Concept Plan” which actually means according to the American Heritage Dictionary a “Downtown Redevelopment Plan Plan. I believe Treasure Island has the first “Plan Plan” in the country.”
Treasure Island which was once call the “Sand Castle Capital of Florida” can now lay claim to the title of “Plan Plan Capital of the World”
According to Commissioner Gayton if you “plan” to go on vacation you must now say “I plan plan to go on vacation, or I plan plan to go shopping or I plan plan to beat my head against the wall”.
T I Beach Bums urges it’s readers to “plan plan” to get rid of our Commissioners.
