First Pictures From Mars Shock NASA

Bums beat Spirit to Mars

Scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory had waited months for the first photographs from the surface of Mars taken by the unmanned rover "Spirit" to arrive. When the first photographs did arrive those scientist were both elated and shocked.

NASA officials were thrilled at the clarity and quality of the pictures being sent back to earth from the surface of Mars. The first pictures revealed a Martian surface covered with rocks whose surfaces had been warn smooth by untold years of exposure to Martian sand storms. The photographs were so clear that large Martian hills could be seen in the distance.

As more photographs arrived the scientists continued to marvel at the apparent success of the mission. The rover "Spirit" had survived the long cold journey through space and had landed safely on the surface of Mars. Scientists knew they could now begin to answer the ages old question of whether life had ever existed on Mars.

However, on Friday scientist received a picture that turned elation into shock. Yes there was life on Mars. A photograph taken on the surface of Mars by "Spirit" showed 4 Treasure Island residents standing in front of "Sprit" with befuddled looks on their faces.

Scientists are asking the public to contact NASA with any information regarding the identity of these 4 Beach Bums in order to figure out how they were able to stand on the surface of Mars drinking beer.
